Narasimha Irwathraya -1 being the eldest son
of Venkatesha Irwathraya & Mahalakshmi, went in search of a temple archak
job for his independent livelihood and ultimately landed at Bendrala. Then the ‘Sthanik’
Brahmins of ‘Shivottu, Madrottu & Charmadi’ were very powerful land lords
wielding authority in the surrounding villages. Under their patronage, he
secured some archak job and started pourohithya (priesthood), ‘Mantravaada
& Jyothishya’ at Bendrala. At the same time, the Bailangady king also
wanted some knowledgeable Brahmin for his needs. Narasimha Irwathraya thus
cultivated links with the King’s palace also. He was living in a house at Bendrala Pithilu (at the edge of ‘Thimaru’
paddy field) near ‘Kailmaru’. At present that residential place of ‘Bendrala
Pithilu’ has vanished and converted in to agricultural land owned by ‘Angara
Gowda’ of the Petrol tanker famous. Narasimha Irwathraya -1 took
some agricultural lands on lease basis (at that time various lease systems like
‘Moola Geni, Vayide Geni & Chala Geni’ were in vogue). He had two
sons namely Venkatramana Irwathraya & Kittanna Irwathraya.
Narasimha Irwathraya -1 :
1) Son - Venkatramana Irwathraya
2) Son - Kittanna
Irwathraya
After Narasimha Irwathraya -1, his children Venkatramana Irwathraya and Kittanna Irwathraya were living at
Bendrala. They were illiterates, but continued their family profession of
Mantravaada and small scale ‘pourohithya’ and ‘archak’ job along with
cultivation of paddy fields in a small way. They were very much afraid of the
then powerful Sthanik Brahmins. It is told that their literacy was limited to
the extent of putting their respective signatures as “Venkatramana Irwathrayana
Ruju” and “Kittanna Irwathrayana Ruju” wherever and whenever these Sthanik
Brahmins ordered & wished. Many stories are heard to how their illiteracy
was exploited by the Sthanik Brahmins.
The
powerful Sthanik Brahmin of Shivottu (Charmady) was famous as Shivottu Patel
and at that time Shivottu Patel named as Anantha Padmanabha Rao was very
notorious. The Prime Ministers of Bailangady Kingdom were also Sthanik
Brahmins. The last King of the Moola Dainasty of Bailngady was Shantharaj
Moolar. Tha last Prime Minister of Bailangady Kingdom was Sthanika
Venkataramana. He was a Bachelor. He was living along with his younger brother
named as Sreenivasa at Bendrala Pithilu.
Both the brothers were in love with a concubine named Maalu, who was
living at the place in Kudru, where earstwhile house of our worker tenant
Lokayya was situated. Because of their common lover, the bachelor brothers Sthanika
Venkataramana and Sreenivasa got developed mutual hatred & enimity. It is
told that, they performed Maata (mantra and witchcraft to destroy
enimies) agaist each other, and ultimately died. Nobody came to know of their
death for four days. Only when their dead bodies started stinking and the foul
smell spread, the people around the place came to know of the silent death of
the brothers. There were no any legal heirs to these two brothers. But as soon
as the news of their death reached Shivottu Patel Padmanabha Rao’s ears, he
became active immediately, and came running to Bendrala. He prevented the
gathering from entering the house of the deceased, telling that he was the
legal heir of the deceased brothers, and he only had the right of performing
their cremation funerals. After performing their funeral, he forcefully took
possession of all their agricultural properties. Some of such agricultural
properties included those cultivated by the Irwathraya brothers – i.e Venkatramana
Irwathraya and Kittanna Irwathraya which were also taken away by the Shivottu
Patel, which rendered the Irwathraya Brothers landless and homeless. When
Irwathraya brothers were preparing to leave the place, Bailangady King
intervened, because there was no othe religible Brahmin family in and surrounding villages to
become Palace Priests. Because of King’s intervention, ultimately Irwathraya
brothers were allowed to cultivate a small stretch of land and allowed to
continue their living at Bendrala Pithilu.
Venkatramana Irwathraya married Jalaja. She died without any
issues. Then he married one more girl, who also died with out any children. He
married again, and his third wife also died without any children. Thus the
unfortunate Venkatramana Irwathraya was a dejected fellow losing all his three
wives without any children. Names of his second and third wives could not be
traced so far. He was prepared to marry again to try his luck, provided
any bride would be available & agree.
Venkatramana Irwathraya’s younger brother Kittanna Irwathraya married a girl named Kaveramma, who was the daughter of Kallayanajji. The famous Kalyanajji hailed from Puthraya family of Naala village. Unfortunately Kittanna
Irwathraya also had no
issues.
